RAGS TO RICHES CLOTHING DRIVE

We will be holding the 1st Annual Rags to Riches Clothing Drive April 20th-24th.

1. To help the recently unemployed get back on their feet
2. To help people realize that they too deserve a second chance
3. To show that we as human beings truly care about the well-being of other human beings.

We need your new, used, or even really used clothing. Whether the tags are still on or the sleeves are ripped off we will take it! Any garments that cannot be donated will be broken down, revamped (into handbags, wallets, belts, accessories, you name it), and sold through the student store a the Art Institute of Raleigh/Durham. All proceeds from the sale of these revamped items will go to The Freedom House as well. This is a super easy way to spring clean your closets and the best way to gain some life points.

Contacts will pick up these clothes if desired of you may drop off at the Art Institute of Raleigh/Durham

Please be sure these garments are washed, and if you are trying to donate undergarments, thanks but no thanks.

This is a great cause, definitely check out the website: http://www.rtpnet.org/freedom/

Thanks Again Everyone!

April 14th Meeting

We mainly went over the new contract.
Here is the rough draft:

As a member of the Moda Guild Fashion Organization of the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham, you are required to understand and uphold certain expectations throughout the year.

  • To remain a member of good standing, you are expected to:

  • Complete a minimum of 1 philanthropic event as well as 1 organization sponsored event per quarter.

  • Attend at least one event that Moda Guild is involved with per semester.

  • Moda Guild Fashion Organization Meetings will be held Each Tuesday at 5:00pm.

  • Continue to stay updated daily through the Moda Guild Facebook group and blog.

  • By joining Moda Guild Fashion Organization at the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham, you are expected to attend ALL events that you decide to sign up for. When our members fail to show up at an event without prior notification of their absence, our Moda Guild Fashion Organization loses its credibility with the community. The lack of event attendance by our members lets down the people we commit to helping and the other members of the organization. If you are unable to attend an event, you must notify the board at least 48 hours before the event. If you fail to notify the board of an absence from an event your status will become inactive for the remainder of the quarter. Membership may be reinstated only at the beginning of the following quarter. Dues will not be refunded upon a membership revocation. It is highly discouraged to miss an event, so please only sign up for events that you are positive you will be able to attend. If each individual commits to these items, he/she will remain a member of good standing. We feel confident that these guidelines will help us grow as individuals and as an organization. We look forward to continuing to grow together in service to our community.

Along with staying dedicated and involved in community events, participation in at least one philanthropic event per quarter is required. The same standards for participation in organization sponsored events will apply to philanthropic events as well.

Moda Guild Fashion Organization meetings will be held every Tuesday of the quarter at 5:00pm. Times and dates are always subject to change. Meetings are very crucial to being involved in this organization, so a minimum of three absences will be required. Exceeding the three absences will result in membership revocation.

One way to stay updated with organization events and cancellations will be through the Moda Guild Facebook page, as well as the blog. It will be very important to check the status of this Facebook page each day to be sure you are reminded of changes/additions, etc.

Sincerely,

Your 2009 Moda Guild Fashion Organization Officers

March 10th, 2009 MEETING

First order of business is the Durham Bulls jersey design competition. Once a year the Durham Bulls design a novelty jersey that the whole team wears and then they are auctioned off for charity. It is great because it will be one of the first times that someone other than the Durham Bulls organization will be designing their annual novelty jersey's. It will be worn for one game on July 26th. After the game, the players will sign their jersey and then an auction will be held. The jerseys in the past have auctioned off anywhere from $90-1,000. We have the opportunity to choose a charity of our choice that the proceeds will be donated to.

You can only choose up to four (4) colors for cost purposes and the Durham Bulls logo (abt. 8") that goes on the left side of the chest has to be included. Our own AI logo cannot be used but we do have the ability to choose the piping, sleeves, and button styles.
The jerseys will have the number of the player on it but not the players name.

The top three will be judged by Miss Jessica, Brian (the Durham Bulls head of merchandise), Monty, and maybe another teacher. It is a great opportunity for our school, Moda Guild, and for the winner! Not only are you raising money for charity but your jersey will hopefully be framed in the school, it is a great resume builder, and you get to see a whole baseball team wearing your design!!! If you don't win, you still get a free ticket to a exciting game! The designs are going to be due around mid May and they will go to print at the end of May.

We need to choose a charity within the next week or two.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The week of April 19th, all of the Art Institutes are going to try to help out their local towns. Moda Guild had already thought of the idea to do a clothing drive, but this would be the perfect opportunity to get the ball rolling. We have chosen to do the drive the week of April 20th through the 24th. It will be great to have Moda Guild as the first club at the school to get involved in the community. We need to chose a charity for this event as well as the Durham Bulls jersey contest. We need to chose by next week so we can get it organized before we all leave for spring break. If anyone has an idea about what charity to donate all the clothing items to, please share your ideas. There are so many shelters and great organizations that we can help! We will need some people to volunteer to sort the clothes, drop them off at the charity site, and help make posters to let everyone know about the event.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have decided to leave on Friday March 27th for the Charleston Fashion Week and will come back home on Sunday the 29th. For anyone that wants to go and has not confirmed, PLEASE contact Joshua or Katie right away. We have about 6 people so far and it should be a lot of fun! A ticket for all day Friday is $45 and Saturday is $30. We've looked at a couple of hotel options and it would be around $40-50 per person if we split rooms. I would estimate the total for the weekend to cost around $175-200 per person.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This weekend is the Redress Raleigh fashion show. It is geared towards changing the way Raleigh thinks about fashion, the environment, and Humanitarian Relief. The designers for the show are students at State so it should be pretty interesting and very educational for us all! The show is on March 14th starting at 5:30 p.m., which is this Saturday, and will be a long day starting at 6am for set up. For anyone that has volunteered, you should get an email shortly from the women running it about your job and details. If you didn't volunteer, you should still attend this great event that is being held at the Hillsborough Street Renaissance Festival. For more information ask Joey or go to http://www.redressraleigh.com

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Southern Women Show is coming up in late April Friday the 24th, Saturday the 25th, and Sunday the 26th. Six (6) volunteers will need to be selected (maybe more if we have a lot of people that would like to help out) to work on one day out of the three. Two (2) people will work one whole day which will be about 8 hours long so be prepared to work if you would like to help out! If you are volunteering, you will not only have to show up the day you are assigned, but you also have to attend the dress rehearsal on Thursday, April 23rd. The volunteers might do jobs like being behind the scenes. That would probably involve getting the models lined up and ready to go out onto the runway. You might even have the opportunity to M.C. and introduce the designers and their lines. How fun!

Here are the potential volunteers so far: Lindsey, Katie, Leandra, Mo, Jackia, Lynell, Sophia, and Ana.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know some were wondering if they could edit the blog themselves. If the password is shared and passed along between people, it might cause some problems. For right now, before we decide on a way to let others edit postings in a safe way, I suggest either telling me (Katie Ives) your changes or at the end of every blog posting their is an option to leave a comment. If you want to just comment on the posting for any suggestions that you might have, I will do my best to make the changes as soon as I receive them.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heather Long, the lovely owner of Catch 22, involves her boutique with First Friday. Every Friday we might be able to display our fashion projects in her store and get AI and Moda Guilds name out there. Very nice of her!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REMINDER: Anything that has our name on it such as posters have to be approved by Jessica first before they are put up anywhere. "Moda Guild" should be placed on anything we put up in the school so that people know who we are and associate us with the name.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Attendance: Jessica Palmer, Katie, Lindsey, Joshua, Leandra, Mo, Nikita, Sarah, Ana, Jackia, Lynnell, and Sophia. If I left any ones name out, please let me know so I can document it.

Charleston Fashion Week

Hey guys, I've got some exciting info together. During March 24-28, in Charleston SC, will be Charleston Fashion Magazine's Third Annual fashion week. The location is Marion Square in downtown Charleston. It is quote, "a five-night celebration of the city’s flourishing retail and design community featuring runway shows from local retailers, the Bridal Couture Show, and the debut of emerging regional designers in the southeast." The website is www.charlestonfashionweek.com

The event has local designers, shoe exhibits, handbag exhibits, jewelry exhibits and the works. We have 6 or 7 of us already that would love to go. Tickets range anywhere form $30 to $195 dollars. We were thinking of driving down Friday morning to Charleston, staying in a hotel/condo, going to the show on Friday night and then going out Friday night. On Saturday we would spend the day in Charleston, shopping and what-not and then head to the finale show on Saturday night around 8pm. There will be a after-party at 930 that night too.

We are all very excited about this and would love to know who all would like to go so we will know how to go about travel arrangements, hotel accomodations, show tickets, etc. The prices are as follows...

(The Art Institute of Charleston in heavily involved so maybe we can get discounts on tickets?)

Daily Show Tickets – Watch spring's hottest looks strut down the Charleston Fashion Week runway with a daily general admission ticket. CASH BAR.
$40 daily Tuesday-Thursday; $45 Friday and $30 Saturday PM

Bridal Couture Tickets – View the latest in chic bridal couture while sipping mimosas and enjoying nibbles and special door prizes. $40 per ticket.

Finale Gala – Mingle or dance the night away with Charleston's most fashionable people at the red carpet Finale celebration. Includes an OPEN BAR, food and live entertainment. $75 per ticket.

Saturday Combo Ticket –Includes admission to Saturday evening's much anticipated runway show of Emerging Designer Finalists (CASH BAR) PLUS the Finale Gala red carpet event (OPEN BAR). $95 per ticket.

I guess we could all do a daily show ticket for Friday at $45.00 and then a Saturday combo ticket for $95.00

Let me know what you all think, and I will get more info together for us. We need to get rooms in advance, some hotels will probably already be sold out so we better hurry!

Thanks!
